Set Up a Parent Portal iPad Kiosk for Your Business!
November 26, 2014
When it comes to customer service, self-service doesn’t have to mean “from home.” If you sometimes get long lines at your front desk after billing, odds are that the majority of these customers can easily answer their questions with a quick trip to the parent portal payments section. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could do that themselves instead of wait in line? They can with a simple iPad kiosk!
In this article, we will explain how to set up an iPad kiosk for customers to easily use your Parent Portal in-house in 4 easy steps!
Step 1: Download the Kiosk Pro Lite by Kiosk Group, Inc. from the App Store.
This app allows you to open up a single webpage (the parent portal) in full screen mode without access to items like the address bar- to prevent customers from potentially trying to access other websites while others wait in line.
Step 2: Use IOS’s built in Guided Access feature to lock it down.
While the Mobile Kiosk app does not allow full web surfing, customers could still exit the app to access the internet or other apps on the iPad. To prevent this, use your Guided Access settings to lock down use to just that App. For instructions on how to use Guided Access, go to Apple’s Support Page.
Step 3: Purchase and set up a secure kiosk station.
Securely attach the iPad to your kiosk station. (You can find some great iPad enclosures for sale here!) You might also consider having items such as screen wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues or pens and paper nearby for customers to use before or after their kiosk visit.
Step 4: Post instructions.
Let’s face it, not everyone is tech-savvy. You might need to include instructions for waking the iPad if it goes into sleep mode, for checking items in the parent portal such as account balances and a quick reminder to sign out when they’re finished!
That’s it! You’re officially set up. And your front office staff will thank you once that line starts moving faster! Not seeing results as fast as you'd like? Try posting a quick pic of your new station on social media to get the word out!
