5 Children’s Books to Encourage Youngsters to Dive Right into Swimming!
October 15, 2014
Swimming is a necessary skill for anyone who wants to spend time in the water. Whether it’s the pool, the beach, a lake or a river. It’s also a great way to have fun, work on coordination, and stay fit! But there are a lot of reluctant little swimmers out there. Here are some great children’s books to help start the discussion about taking swim lessons or hopping in the water for the first time.
These 5 swim themed books are geared toward children between the ages of 2-8:
First Time at the Pool by RyAnn Hall
Ages 2-6. 23 pages. This book is all about building confidence and courage to try new things, like going in the pool for the first time!
Jay’s Swimming Journey by Elli Overton
Ages 4-6. 26 pages. This book focuses on being self-aware and listening to improve and make the most out of swimming lessons.
A Treasure at sea for Dragon and Me: Water Safety for Kids by Jean E. Pendziwol
Ages 3-7. 32 pages. The main character in this book goes to the beach with her father to learn about water safety. This playful approach to water safety is a must read for beginners and comes with a safety checklist!
Cool in the Pool by Shirly R.L.
Ages 6-8. 41 pages. A great book to help convince nervous children that learning to swim doesn’t have to be scary. It can be fun and safe!
There’s a Hurricane in the Pool by Jessica Gunderson
Ages 6-8. 56 pages. Part of the Sports Illustrated Kids Victory School Superstars series. In this book Kenzie is making waves as she struggles to keep her kicks under control.
There are so many other books out there to get kids reading and interested in swimming!
Feel free to suggest another for our list by sending a short description (like the ones you see above) to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “Swimming Readers” and we’ll try adding it to the list!
